"LEMON Photonics" won the first prize of the 2018 International Advanced Semiconductor Innovation Competition World Finals in the Teams Group
On December 22, jointly sponsored by the Advanced Semiconductor Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance and the Shunyi District People's Government, and hosted by the Shunyi Park Management Committee of Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park, the Award Ceremony of the International Advanced Semiconductor Innovation Competition (referred to as "the Competition" hereafter) World Finals was held at the Crown Holiday Inn in Shunyi District, Beijing.
Director Cao Jianlin addressed the conference first. He briefly introduced the basic information of the Competition, and spoke highly of the active cultivation of strategic emerging industries and high-end business forms, and comprehensive promotion of construction of advanced semiconductors in Shunyi District.
Zhai Lixin delivered a speech next. He expressed special thoughts and feelings towards the Competition since he has vigorously promoted the event when in the Torch Center. He said that Zhongguancun National Innovation Demonstration Zone followed the needs of the times, and has basically formed the layout of a whole industry chain and all-round support for the advanced semiconductors in Shunyi Park, personnel with science and technology innovations were welcome to join.
On behalf of the Shunyi District People's Government, Sun Junmin congratulated the successful conduction of the Competition and the global finals, and the award-winning innovation projects. She introduced the industrial layout of Shunyi District and the advanced semiconductor industry cluster, and hoped to join hands with the Competition to make greater contributions to the construction of the capital sub-center.
The contested winners of the finals
As an entrepreneurship and innovation competition with the highest level, the largest scale, and the most participation projects in semiconductors field, a total of 33 domestic and foreign quality projects from four divisional finals have been successfully promoted to the global finals. The focus of each project is closely related to the six major scopes of the Competition - consumer electronics and robots, intelligent lighting and display, 5G communication, new energy vehicles and rail transportations, new energy grid-connection and energy internet, and military-civilian integration, which fully shows the new thoughts, new applications and new directions in the field of advanced semiconductors.
The winners of the first prize in the global finals are " Convert Semiconductor " from the enterprises group and "LEMON Photonics" from the teams group, who were awarded by Cao Jianlin, Deputy Director of the CPPCC National Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Director of the Ministry Committee of the Third-Generation Semiconductor Strategic Alliance of Technological Innovation, and Zhai Lixin, Deputy Secretary and Director of Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park, respectively.
The second prize winners are "Zixun Artificial Intelligence Institute" from the enterprises group and "Chinese Academy of Sciences Semiconductor Institute filters" from the teams group，who were awarded by Sun Junmin, Deputy Secretary of Shunyi District Committee and Acting District Chief, and Cao Guoying, Deputy Director-General of the Department of High and New Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology, respectively.
Third prize projects are "Photon Artificial Intelligence Chip" project from enterprises group and "AlpsenTek Project" from Switzerland, awarded by Sheng Yanlin, Deputy Director of the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center and Zhi Xianwei, Standing Committee and Deputy District Chief of Shunyi District, respectively.
The award ceremony also presented the Outstanding Organization Award to the Eastern Division Organizers —— Zhangjiagang High-tech Zone Innovation Development Bureau, Southeast Division Organizers —— Nanchang Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Nanchang High-tech Zone Management Committee, International and Southern Division Organizers —— Shenzhen Longhua District Technology and Innovation Bureau, Shenzhen Advanced Semiconductor Research Institute, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Division and Global Finals Organizers —— Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park Shunyi Park Management Committee.
The Competition-promoted collaborations
At the venue brimming with joy of victory, Zhi Xianwei, Standing Committee and Deputy District Chief of Shunyi District, introduced the development environment of Shunyi District and the development of the advanced semiconductor industry. He said that the advanced semiconductor material has broad market prospects, it’s an important aspect of Beijing's high-tech industries, but also one of the three innovative industrial clusters that Shunyi has determined to promote. In recent years, Shunyi District has done a lot of fruitful work on accelerating the development of the advanced semiconductor industry. The district has a good foundation, good service, open space and beautiful surroundings. We hope that more qualified innovation and entrepreneurship projects will settle down here.
Upon the nurturing land for advanced semiconductors, under the caring attention from all attendants, representatives from three top-quality projects reported their own innovation projects. The reports range from autonomous navigation and 3D data acquisition of drones by New 3S, to high performance operation by Photonic Artificial Intelligence Chip, to the advanced semiconductor device which can realize power level control, great development prospects of the advanced semiconductors and relating applications have been displayed from various angles.
In the process of hosting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei finals and the global finals, Zhongguancun Shunyi Park, based on the platform of the Competition, actively carried out project landing and investment attraction activities, and promoted multiple winning projects in this competition to sign landing intentions with the park. At the signing ceremony, Zhang Jianguo, deputy director of the Shunyi Park Management Committee of Zhongguancun, signed contracts with representatives of the projects such as New 3S, Photon Artificial Intelligence Chip, Faytech, Laz-lighting, Guangzhou Semiconductor Research Institute GaN Chip Project, etc.
In the end, Wu Ling, chairman of the Advanced Semiconductor Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, the lead organizer of the Competition, made a brief and sincere conclusive speech for the Competition of this year. She started with gratitude to the organizers of all divisions, the leading enterprises participating in the Competition and experts with different specializations. She congratulated the award-winning projects and wished the projects good luck in search for a platform that would foster them toward prosperity.
The platform for advanced semiconductor innovation and entrepreneurship not only integrates global resources, but also promotes the development of enterprises big or small. After a year of competition, a number of outstanding innovation projects have been discovered. Next year, the International Advanced Semiconductor Innovation Competition will go on, promoting the rapid development of China's semiconductor industry in the 21st century.
